As gardeners gear up to begin planning and planting for 2026 we urge you to be aware of the plants you’re incorporating into your garden. Many of the invasive plants in BC, including knotweed species and Mountain bluet were introduced through the horticulture industry and yet the sale of invasives continues.
For a list of alternatives to commonly sold or traded invasive plants, please see the Grow Me Instead guide provided by the Invasive Species Council of BC.
Another way of spreading invasive plants are Wildflower Seed Mixes. Many of these contain bachelor’s button, baby’s breath or other invasive ornamental plants. Please be aware of what seeds are contained in these mixes, and if you are planning on using them, try to find ones that are specific to your region.
You can find more information on seed mixes here!
