The Northwest Invasive Plant Council (NWIPC) was established in 1992 to provide resolution of issues and coordination for invasive plant management programs in Northwest BC. The Council is made up of agencies, organizations and individuals that carry out invasive plant programs or have an interest in those programs.
In 2004, the NWIPC was asked by the Inter-ministerial Invasive Plant Committee to pilot a single agency regional delivery model for invasive plant programs. A meeting of the NWIPC was called in June 2004 to discuss this request and the NWIPC agreed to proceed with the pilot. At the fall meeting in October 2004, a Constitution and Bylaws that allowed for the pilot to proceed were approved and interim directors were elected. In 2004, the Council became a not-for-profit organization.
A three-year Action Plan was developed to outline the necessary steps, appropriate time frames and a budget to have Phase 1 of the pilot operational by the field season of 2005.
